Configuration and Appliance Management Basic

After your DNSVault device is installed on your network and is set up with a basic configuration file, you can start to add more configuration settings. The topics in this section help you complete these basic management and maintenance tasks.

MANAGE DEVICE FROM A REMOTE LOCATION

When you configure a DNSVault device first time, the DNSVault security policy is created automatically. This policy allows you to connect to and administer the device from any computer on your trusted networks. DNSVault also allow administrative connections from any IP address of your remote location. The DNSVault controls access to the device on this TCP ports: 80. Before you modify the DNSVault default setting, we recommend that you consider connecting to the device with a management port first. This greatly increases the security of the connection.

ABOUT LICENSE EXPIRATION AND RENEWAL

The DNSVault license needs regular updates to operate effectively. The subscription services are:

  • vShield (our DNS protection service)
  • Network attacking blocker (DDOS, Brute force)
  • DNS Management Module
  • Latest Firmware Update

In addition, an initial service license is activated when you register your product. You subscription gives you access to technical support, software updates, and feature enhancements. It also extends the hardware warranty of your DNSVault device and provides advance hardware replacement.

We recommend that you renew your license before they expire. DNSVault charges a re-instatement fee for any subscriptions that are lapse.

SECURITY SERVICE EXPIRATION BEHAVIOR

When a subscription service expires, all the service above does not operate, and the configuration options are disabled. The DNS service is still answering all the DNS queries, however.
